Who: care staff and unlicensed assistive personnel (UAP) in assisted living, residential care, nursing and skilled nursing care and in-home care

Diabetes management is one of the most common tasks of nursing in senior care. Nurses need their non-licensed staff to know the basic fundamentals of diabetes care. In this training course, participants will discover the fundamentals of the disease process and effective management of diabetes. Participants will examine the role of unlicensed care staff in helping to managed resident diabetes effectively. Upon completion of this course, participants will: 

  • Define key terms and types of diabetes
  • Recognize the fundamentals of diabetes management
  • Summarize key definitions and the role of insulin in diabetes management
  • Perform insulin delivery and administration as specified by a licensed nurse
  • Caregivers and UAP specifically from ALF/RCF will be prepared to receive and effectively carry out diabetes related delegations in a CBC setting from a licensed nurse.
